Episode 222. The problem with vulnerability
10 minute Tuesday - The problem with vulnerability
While vulnerability is often celebrated as a central component in ending the stigma around mental health, there are 3 big reasons why it is only making things worse. Vulnerability definitely has value as an entry point into the transformation process, yet it is commonly used as an end in itself which then validates, solidifies, and rewards personal dysfunction.
The only real value of vulnerability is for you to be able to see your disfunction clearly enough to change it. The aim of the game is to become less dysfunctional and yet the culturally celebrated vulnerability movement only seems to give people more reason to hold onto their dysfunction and resit getting help in a way that genuinely transforms them.
Listen in to understand more about how vulnerability is supposed to work so that you can avoid the vulnerability trap.
